Is It Better To Iron On Patches Or Sew Them?
A question we get asked a lot is 'Is it better to iron on patches or sew them?'.
There are benefits to both ways of attaching your brand new patch so lets dig in.
The case for ironing on a patch
The main plus point here is convenience. Not everyone wants to get their sewing kit out every time they want to attach their gorgeous new animal patch. So to be able to simply repair your denim jeans with a patch in just 30 seconds is a perfect solution.
There are some easy tips to follow for applying them and you can find our handy guide here.
The case for sewing on a patch
The major benefit of sewing on a patch is security. Once your brand new sparkly sequin patch has arrived, if you are stitching it onto your favourite top, it's never coming off no matter how many times you wash it.
You needn't worry about 'will my patch come off in the wash' or 'do patches stay on', it's just not a concern.
There's also the added bonus of being able to unstitch the patch and move it to a different garment should you choose to.
You can also attach them to leather and other surfaces where ironing them with glue just won't work very well.
Iron On Patches vs Sew On Patches: The verdict
As you can see, the question of 'Is it better to iron on patches or sew them' is not a one size fits all situation.
The both have pros and cons depending on your preferences.
Our favourite method is to combine the two. We like to iron on the patches for an easy appliance you just can beat and then just add a stitch or two to make sure that baby is never coming off.
